A short introduction to Forum Syd
Forum Syd works to reduce poverty by challenging oppression and discrimination. To achieve this end, we collaborate with our 200 Swedish member organisations and thousands of organisations and networks worldwide. Forum Syd strive to strengthen civil society via development cooperation, advocacy and forming of opinion, as well as skills and methods development.
Forum Syd in Africa:
- has a vision of development cooperation that will include democratic governance, human rights, HIV/aids, fighting corruption and fraud, sustainable environment, trade and economic development as integral parts of poverty reduction, both as a means and end.
- moves towards rights based programming as opposed to a needs based approach. This means that Forum Syd partner organisations in the region will harmonize and mainstream democratic governance, human rights, civic education, HIV/aids and anti-corruption in development cooperation. Forum Syd Africa and partner organisations will also more clearly become part of national and regional networks that will work to influence public policy development and practice at national, regional and international levels.
- will promote perspective towards the role of civil society in Africa in the context of the Paris Agenda/Accrah Agenda for Action and seek to strengthen regional networks and forums to influence upon the role of civil society in the Paris Agenda/Accrah Agenda for Action.
